Volunteers at John Grooms Court care home in Norwich have launched a new knitted project to reproduce a model of Noah’s Ark.

This is the third knitting project to be undertaken by the volunteering group for the care home, Friends of John Grooms Court, and will be unveiled in 2016.

John Grooms Court is a spacious and modern care home that offers 29 self-contained flats to disabled residents who can develop and maintain their independence.

Friends of John Grooms Court are being joined by their knitting partner, Norfolk Knitters and Stitchers, to assist in the project.

Knitters from across the world are expected to contribute and the volunteer group is now putting a shout out for people to send in their pairs of animals to John Grooms Court.

They are asking for all species of animals no larger than 8 inches high. This knitting project is for all levels of knitters, and they would welcome blue squares and triangles for the sea, preferably 6 inch squares.

Proceeds from the Noah’s Ark project will go towards the Livability Home Design Appeal, which is improving residents’ living spaces in Livability care homes to help them enjoy more independence and freedom of choice than ever before.

Previous knitted projects by Friends of John Grooms Court, now in their 25th year, include a 15ft Christmas tree and a 7ft tall flower pergola.

Lady Walpole, Chair of Friends of John Grooms Court volunteering group said:

‘Following the success of our previous knitting projects, we are delighted to partner with the Norfolk Knitters and Stitchers to create a magnificent Noah’s Ark for everyone to enjoy. We do hope knitters will join with us to create many pairs of animals and a blue sea, which will help us to raise funds not just by exhibiting the ark but we will be selling the animals too.’

Lisa Hemsley, Head of Community Fundraising at Livability said:

‘We are very grateful to the fantastic dedication of our local Friends Group whom continue to create such wonderful community activities for all to get involved with and enjoy. I can’t wait to see all the interesting animals and impressive ark when it is unveiled in February at The Forum.’
