'Redhead Girl And Sunflowers' by Maria Burns

About the artwork

I wanted to create something bold and graphic and I used strongly coloured gouache paint to achieve this. The girl in my painting is inspired by my redheaded daughters and I liked the way the orange hair stood out amongst the dense green foliage. I admire the size, symmetry and the brightness of sunflowers and I felt they were the right flower for this illustration particularly as they are very bee friendly. I’ve created a pattern of bees in the background.
