Mike Phillips took to the river Wye on Sunday 24th September, to do a wild swim and raise money for Livability. We asked him a few questions about his inspiring story.
I really enjoy swimming and my brother Ben does lots of swimming events so I wanted to do something with him. A wild swim was perfect as it also raised money for Livability – a charity that is close to my heart.
I’ve been wild swimming all my life. It’s something we always did as kids.
Swimming is peaceful and relaxing and it’s even better in the wild surrounded by beautiful countryside. It’s a bit chilly! That’s the worst part…but you soon warm up!
I’ve been carrying out maintenance for Livability Wall Street Hereford and have got to know the amazing staff and wonderful residents over the last 2 years. I wanted to do something to support the excellent work they do. Through going there I have realised how great a job the staff do for all of the people that live there and how they work tirelessly to ensure that the best quality of life is provided, every step of the way.
Livability makes a big difference to people’s lives.
I hoped to raise some money to help Wall Street pay for the facilities they need.
That I can do more if I put my mind to it and we’re all capable of more than we think we are.
Go for it! It’s a great way to exercise whilst enjoying Mother Nature and raising money for a fantastic cause.
