Livability’s annual Princess Royal Awards reception took place on 7 November 2013 at the Radisson Blu Edwardian, Bloomsbury Street Hotel, London.

Several members of the charity’s staff as well as supporters and volunteers received awards from Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal in recognition of their outstanding work helping disabled people in the UK.

The Princess Royal awards were created by Livability to recognise the outstanding contribution of its staff, supporters and volunteers – often the ‘unsung heroes’.  Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal who is Livability’s patron, graciously agreed to put her name to the awards.

The winners were:

·    Darren Cossey, a wheelchair user from Rochford, Essex, who received an Outstanding Supporter Award for taking part in the London Marathon twice for Livability, raising thousands of pounds to help support disabled people in the UK. Darren will take part in the event again next year
·    Alice Morris, from Folkstone, Kent, who is Head of the Livability Enterprise Agency and received an Outstanding Staff Achievement Award for her work helping disabled people start their own business
·    Steve Wright, from Whitecross, who works for  Livability’s Wall Street residential care home in Hereford and received an Outstanding Staff Achievement Award
·    The Friends of Dolphin Court, a Southend group of 8 fundraisers who received an Outstanding Volunteer Award for their work raising much-needed funds for Livability’s Dolphin Court residential home and for making a great difference to the lives of disabled people in Essex
·    The Livability Lifestyle Choices South West Team, who received an Outstanding Staff Achievement (Team) Award  for their work  providing care and practical support to disabled people in their own home as well as helping them lead a fuller life outside their home
·    Gail Horner from Bromley, who works for Livability’s Nash College, and received a Lifetime Contribution Award. A senior Speech and Language Therapy Assistant at Nash College, Gail began her career there over 22 years ago.

Every year the charity invites nominations from its managers and staff across the whole organisation to nominate a colleague, supporter or volunteer who they believe has made a special contribution in support of Livability values for which they deserve to be recognised. A panel made up of a cross section of the Livability workforce then reviews and assesses the nominations.
