Livability’s Victoria Education Centre brought home another top award this autumn, when the Poole-based special school won a prestigious NASEN (National Association of Special Education Needs) prize for technology.
Victoria Education Centre (VEC) students benefit from the school’s highly specialised and experienced tech teams who adopt and adapt technology to give disabled children and young people the best possible access to the digital world.
In granting the award, NASEN cited VEC’s ‘innovative approach to cutting edge technology and how [they] use its strengths to enhance student’s academic and communication experience.’
Headteacher Simon Brown commented: ‘This is another fantastic achievement and acknowledgement of the amazing work our staff do and how they make such a difference to the lives and future success of the students at VEC.’
VEC students and staff engage with some of the latest tech developments, and have partnered with Bournemouth University, renowned for digital innovation, on tech tools including Eyegaze, which enables users to operate a computer with eye movements.
This latest award has been added to VEC’s packed display cabinet – this year alone, the Ofsted-Outstanding-rated school won technology prize in the TES (Times Education Supplement) awards, and individual staff have garnered honours in arts, drama and PE teaching, as well as being frequently nominated in several categories for national awards.
