Livability’s outstanding team of care workers is highlighted in the charity’s ‘Star Carers’ Christmas 2020 Appeal, which launched 14 Novemeber 2020.
Livability staff support people with disabilities in a wide range of services including residential care, independent living, rehabilitation and education.
This Christmas, the Star Carers appeal invites audiences to discover inspiring stories of Livability staff going the extra mile since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, to ensure not just the health but the wellbeing of the people they serve.
The vital need for boosting wellbeing is supported by recent research* showing that more than twice as many people with disabilities say their mental health is worse as a result of Covid-19, compared with people without disabilities. And nearly twice as many people with disabilities feel they have no one to talk to about their worries.
In light of this trend, Livability is ensuring people with disabilities can keep in contact with family and friends through assistive technology, something at the heart of this appeal. Devices such as iPads and smartphones connect people, beat isolation and opens doors to better wellbeing. Donations will enable staff to buy and introduce equipment to our services which will make people’s lives better and more connected with others.
Items like iPads and smartphones can be life-changing when you’re living a very restricted life. Livability wants to provide its services with enough devices to enable as many people as possible to use them regularly.
Indoor games and entertainment, when getting outside is difficult, is another need. This appeal will enable services to buy kit such as online exercise software, games and craft materials. These can be enjoyed by people we support, safely together in their bubble, on their own, or with their care staff. Day-to-day activities are hugely important because they keep minds as well as bodies stimulated and healthy.
Donors to the Star Carers Appeal are encouraged to send a kind message of support to Livability staff, along with their gift.
