Thousands enjoy community, nature and wellbeing at Livability Holton Lee

On Saturday, Livability Holton Lee welcomed the local community for a day of family fun at their annual Community Fair.

The fair drew a crowd of around 1,500 visitors from across Dorset to join in with a range of exciting things to see and do and was formally opened by the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Mr Angus Campbell. Attractions for the afternoon included birds of prey, a climbing wall, an amazing range of local arts and crafts, live music, ferret racing and tractor rides.

The beautiful gardens were open to everyone for people to relax and enjoy the delicious cream teas. Visitors were free to explore the site, set in 350-acres of natural heathland. A fully accessible nature discovery trail provided a unique opportunity to explore the natural environment and the RSPB were on hand to help people discover the wildlife.

Children and adults alike were offered a taster of the range of activities offered by Livability Holton Lee. The centre offers horticultural and forest-skills wellbeing-improvement programmes, art days featuring printmaking and ceramics courses, as well as fully accessible horse-and-carriage driving. Development is also underway to create a spinal injury support centre within the site, offering help and care for people leaving hospital following a spinal cord injury.

“Community is what Livability Holton Lee is all about so it was really encouraging to be able to gather different charities and organisations together on site to showcase what they bring to the local community.

“Once again we were blessed with good weather and there was a great atmosphere. It was a real delight to see everyone, whatever their age or ability, having fun and enjoying themselves in the sunshine.
