Prospects for people with learning disabilities is a charity that became part of the Livability group in May 2016. On Sunday 2nd October the Prospects community joined together for a special event and 40 year celebration at Thatcham Baptist Church, West Berkshire.

Attended by many long term friends of Prospects including; supporters; staff; board members and representatives of 220 ministry groups in partner churches – the date marked an important occasion for Prospects – of 40 years since the charity began.

Over the past 40 years, Prospects have provided disability care services and worked to equip the UK Church to be more welcoming and accessible for people with learning disabilities. The charity’s pioneering work has focused on ensuring that people with learning disabilities have the opportunity to celebrate and journey in the Christian faith.

Founders Reverend David Potter MBE and Madeleine Potter were there to host the evening and give thanks to God for all the people Prospects had been used to support since the charity’s inception.

Alongside an address from David Potter, there were goodwill messages sent from Clive Calver, Jonathan Lamb of Keswick Ministries, Lyndon Bowring Executive Chairman of CARE, as well as people from care services and ministry groups.

Adam Bonner, Executive Director for Public Engagement at Livability attended the event and said: ‘We are delighted that after 40 years of faithful service, the Prospects story has joined the Livability story. Together, building on our joint Christian ethos, we look forward to growing the work we do with and through the local church to make communities more livable for everyone. The Prospects story is inspirational, and now, as part of the Livability group, we know that we can do even more to reach out and make a significant impact on tackling barriers in our society.’
