As we embark upon the week of Christmas and the celebration of the birth of Christ, we consider the words of the Christmas carol ‘Oh Holy Night’.
“The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger In all our trials born to be our friend. Truly He taught us to love one another. His law is love and His gospel is peace.” (Oh Holy Night).
The carol reminds us that the God of love we celebrate at Christmas is a God of friendship and community. The birth of Christ brings an important invitation to us all: to love God and love one another; just as he has loved us.
At Livability, this call is both an inspiration and a challenge.
We are inspired because it is in and through community that we have the opportunity to learn, grow and support one another. Together life’s more livable.
We are challenged because too many disabled people in our society face barriers that cause them to be isolated and excluded. This has to change so that life is more livable for all.
That’s why Livability is committed to creating supportive community connections for disabled people – that help them to be included and truly thrive.
In a year that’s seen the government publish a strategy called ‘A Connected Society’ to tackle isolation, the power of community connections in changing the face of isolation and enriching people’s lives is now more important than ever.
As we conclude 2018 and prepare our hearts for 2019, we invite you to work with us in working for a fairer and more connected society, together and with the people we support.
