Justin Welby to host disability conference with Livability

On Friday 13th July Justin Welby – The Archbishop of Canterbury and President of Livability – will be hosting a conference at Lambeth Palace to discuss how disabled people can participate fully in the life of the church.

The day’s theme ‘A Place to Belong’ will consider what barriers disabled people can face in church life, and what churches can do to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to take part and share their gifts and talents.

Featured on a recent Ouch Podcast, Justin Welby has said that the Church needs to do more to embrace disability and mental health. Referencing the experience of two of his daughters, he has spoken of Katherine’s mental health illness and Ellie’s learning disabilities.

Livability have been partnering with Lambeth Palace in the development of the conference and have helped to shape the conference’s discussion agenda for the day.

To mark the event, Livability has launched a new resource to help churches consider their response to disabled people, and equip churches to work for full participation in their setting, called More Than Welcome.
