A residential home and its residents come together to throw a 70th birthday party

It’s pretty common to want to fulfil a person’s wants when it’s their birthday. It’s a sign to say they are valued and it’s a day of being celebrated. But the staff at one of our residential homes had a challenge on their hands to put on a birthday party with only a couple of weeks notice.

‘Michelle, I would like a birthday party for my 70th birthday,’ requested David – one of the residents at Livability Beaumont Court in Northumberland.

The residential home has a very friendly and sociable atmosphere and the staff are used to having fun with the residents. With only two weeks until the big day time was not on the side of the Livability Beaumont Court team to plan and execute the party, but they were determined to get it done!

David envisaged the party as a gathering of his various social circles within the community, including his friends in his choir, at the local allotment and social club.

Finding a venue was the biggest challenge and the day before the party Michelle, manager at Livability Beaumont Court managed to grab a local community centre who were more than happy to host the event.

The day finally came for the birthday party. The team decided they would cover the catering and after many hours in the kitchen they produced delicious homemade pies, cakes, scones and sandwiches.

With the party in full swing, thanks to a local DJ who agreed to provide the music – 35 people danced the night away to celebrate David’s 70th birthday.

‘I really enjoyed my party and was thankful to everyone who came,’ commented David. ‘I especially liked the dancing and the food.’

‘The whole night was a huge success and it just goes to show that even if something seems too hard, never give up’, said Michelle. ‘The smile on everyone’s face especially David’s made it all worthwhile.’
