Students and staff at Hinwick Hall College will stage an exciting and colourful representation of their very own opera ”The Funny Forest” on Friday 24 June 2011.
Students and staff created the ”Dream Team Opera Company” and came up with their own costumes, choreography and songs. They were helped by professionals from the Royal Opera House who recently held a workshop at the college to advise students and staff on all the elements of stage production and performance.
Hinwick College is run by the charity Livability and is a leading specialist day and residential college and welcomes up to 60 students with learning disabilities aged 16 to 24 years. It is based in Hinwick, Wellingborough, Northants NN29 7JD.
The students families and friends will be invited to attend the performance and enjoy a fun day at the college.
Liz Auchincloss, Hinwick Hall College Principal, said, ”This project has given our students and staff a unique opportunity. Not many young people have the chance to work with professionals from the Royal Opera House! It seemed like a daunting prospect at the start, how could young people with a learning disability write an opera? Well, at Hinwick we believe you can until you show us you cant! Staff from the Opera House want to use the Hinwick experience to inspire other teachers to take up the challenge. The students and staff have worked collaboratively to bring this innovative project to a colourful conclusion. We look forward to its premiere in college on 24th June in front of parents and invited guests.”
Hinwick Hall College strongly believes that all students have the potential to make choices about their lives and be proactive in directing a lifestyle of their choice.
