Busy Week at Victoria Education Centre

A very busy week ahead at Victoria Education Centre and Sports College , as students will be taking part in Arts week from the 19th – 23rd March. For the whole week students will be encouraged to engage in their creative skills with help from artists, musicians, dancers and various entertainers.

Students will also have the opportunity to visit the Globe Theatre in London, where they will take part in a Shakespeare workshop, and the Mayflower in Southampton.

Other activities include: a puppet and magic show, a Hypnosound workshop shiatsu workshops, music workshops (flute and guitar), cake making and an Easter Egg Hunt; and a performance from a flying hoop expert.

All students will also get involved in creating mascot outfits for the school’s sports week (18 July). The mascots will represent various countries and the students will also be making replicas of the Olympic Games mascots.

This week will also see the opening of the school’s Pets Corner which will house 2 rabbits and 2 guinea pigs. Students and staff will dress as their favourite animal for the occasion and the new feature will be officially opened by the rabbits themselves – we hope they will chew through the purpose made cabbage ribbon. The students painted the animal sheds and nearby walls themselves and Pets Corner will expend the school’s sensory garden experience. Snakes and owls and other animals will also visit the college to mark the occasion.

The week will also include competitive sporting activities with the Dorchester Swimming Gala, where students will show their swimming skills and compete against several other schools.

Finally the college is also opening its doors to 25 social care professionals from nearby local authorities for a tour of the centre, some lunch and a chance to network. This visit gave them an opportunity to see all the hard work that goes on in the Centre.
