Livability announces closure of self-catering holiday home service

For a number of years, Livability has been proud to deliver our self-catering holiday homes service. It has provided opportunities for many disabled people to enjoy holidays and recreational time away from home with their families.

Livability is committed to providing opportunities and services that provide a high level of care, quality and customer experience. With developments in the travel industry and beyond increasing accessibility of a wider number of holiday facilities and destinations, the time was right for us to review the service and facilities that we offer.

Following a full and comprehensive review of the future development of the service, and in the light of the many calls on our resources, we have decided that Livability should no longer provide our self-catering holiday accommodation. We will therefore be taking no further bookings for these properties.

At the heart of Livability is a commitment to supporting the people we work with to enjoy independence and choice and their daily lives – we will continue to work hard to ensure that service users have opportunities to go on holiday and enjoy recreational activities. The charity will ensure that robust plans are in place and will be supporting staff affected by the decision.

‘Over the years we know that many disabled people and their families have enjoyed holidays in Livability’s self-catering holiday homes. Livability must continually assess our capacity to deliver quality services that bring best possible outcomes for people with disabilities. When we started holiday services there were very limited options for people to choose from. The situation is now very different and we know that there are many more choices and better provision available for disabled people to go on holiday in accessible environments, run by organisations where that is their primary focus. As time passes, the numbers of people taking holidays with us is reducing and this has made it more and more difficult to maintain our properties to the standard we expect for our customers.

‘Whilst we are always sad to close services which have been important to people, we know that there are many more choices and better provision available for disabled people to go on holiday in accessible environments, run by organisations for which this is their primary focus.’

Livability thanks the staff and supporters in the local community who have contributed so much to the work of Livability self-catering holidays.
