Nash College Arts & Diversity Week a great success
27/07/2010
Nash college Annual
Arts Week which took place between 12-16 July has proved a
fantastic success and a great opportunity for all students to
display their creative talents and celebrate the richness that
living in a diverse community offers.

Nash College is based in
the London Borough of Bromley and is a college of further
education for around 65 young people who have learning
disabilities.
One
of the highlights of the week was an exhibition of the students
artwork which attracted many visitors to its the private
view evening and proved a great occasion for people to
socialize with staff and students.
The college had renamed their exhibition space the Nashional
Gallery for the occasion and many of the works on display were
sold during the private view evening much to the students
delight.
The exhibition space was also used throughout the week for a
wide variety of visiting artists, dancers, theatre groups and
cultural activities.
Other activities during the arts activities week
included:
- A performance by Derek and Nick on the Cello and Piano,
two very talented blind, and autistic young men who study at
one of the RNIB Colleges. Song sheets were provided so all
could join in.
- A workshop by Spoken World Drama Productions where many
students joined in with the scenarios about friendships,
bullying and staying safe.
- A punk band performing in the colleges main dining hall.
This was a very popular event with lots of students and staff
dancing and pogo-ing!
- Same Sky arts group helped the students to make lanterns
from a whicker frame and tissue paper. These looked
absolutely amazing during the Festival of light that was held
by the college pond during the week. A bagpipe player
appearing from the surrounding trees added to the
ambience.
- Performances by Soundscape who helped students to create
a story with various sounds operated by switches.
- Performances by Ugandan dances and drummers. Staff and
students joined in with enthusiasm.
- Performances by Violets group. This featured music and
dancing from several countries.
- The final day of the arts week saw a fashion show in the
morning, an excellent BBQ lunch and then a visit to Nash
Fayre. Here students took turns at old fashioned fayre games
such as splat a rat and hook a duck(no animals were harmed
during this event!) They also tasted the delights of the
chocolate fountain. During the week, other activities such as
the Nash Theatre, showing short award winning films, sand art
and glass painting were on offer.
Claire Howley-Mummery, Nash
College, Principal, said ''The arts and diversity
week was a fantastic way to celebrate students achievements and
to bring exciting and challenging learning events into the
college. There has been a real celebration at the end of the
academic year. We are delighted that the artwork on display has
proved of such high standard and that students and visitors
alike have enjoyed and learnt so much throughout the
week''.
