Northamptonshire spending cuts target people with disabilities

Northamptonshire County Council has just announced that they are cutting the funding that allows vulnerable young people with disabilities with mobility issues to travel to and from college.
Hinwick Hall College, Wellingborough, Northants, is one of the establishments whose students and families are facing having to pay more to cover the cost of daily travel. Some parents, many on low incomes, are being asked to find an additional up to £60 a week to cover costs for a daily taxi ride.
Liz Auchincloss, Hinwick Hall College Principal, said, It is really outrageous that people with disabilities are being singled out for such stringent cuts. Local authorities should not target some of the most vulnerable people in our society and should instead focus on keeping education accessible and affordable for all.
Hinwick Hall College is a very special place and we fear that many local students will miss out on the chance of receiving the education they need and the opportunity to develop vital life skills for the future.
