PRESS RELEASE 1st July
County councillor visits Colchester centre of excellence for people with disabilities
Ann Naylor councillor for Brentwood, Essex county council and Lead for Health and Social Care visited Treetops, Colchester, Essex on 29 June 2010.
Ann Naylor met staff and residents at the residential care home for disabled adults with nursing needs which is recognised for its outstanding work in the field of caring for people with disabilities.
Treetop, based in Colchester, Essex, is recognised as a high dependency centre for physically disabled young adults who would over wise be cared for in hospitals. Treetops currently has 20 residents and offers 24 hour care.
The centre continues to develop and refine its service in order to care for a variety of high care needs, and works in tandem with the discharging hospital to offer a seamless, individually tailored and highly specialised service.
People sustaining a physical disability due to serious accident and/or injury often remain in hospital following the acute episode because they are unable to be cared for safely in a nursing home or at home. In Colchester, Treetops has been able to step in and is able to provide specialised service to the local Health Authority and other rehabilitation hospitals including Stoke Mandeville, Homerton and the Putney hospital.
Janet Bilton Manager said, '' We were delighted to welcome the county councillor and be able to share with her examples of good practice. We pride ourselves in providing our residents with tailored support and in making sure that they live life to the full. We also work closely with the local primary care trust to make sure that people with disabilities due to accident or injury do not remain in hospital unnecessarily and receive the care and support they need in our centre.''
Treetops is ran by leading disability charity Livability.
