Information for trusts
Our vision is of a transformed society where disabled and disadvantaged people can live life to the full. To accomplish this, we need support from trusts and foundations so that we can keep providing our unique high quality services and adapt to meet the changing needs of disabled people across the UK and overseas.
The statutory funding we receive only provides a basic level of support for our residential and educational services and does not cover many of the areas that we work in. Our supporters enable Livability to campaign against injustice on issues of poverty and disability to bring about real positive change and to deliver quality of life services, like investing in communication technology so disabled people can express themselves with greater clarity and ease.
Livability was formed from the merger of John Grooms and the Shaftesbury Society in 2007 and we would like to thank the trusts and foundations who supported these two historic charities and our present supporters. From your generosity we have been able to help disabled people live their lives with independence, choice and opportunity.
Through Livability, you can help disabled people in a variety of ways:
- Independent living and choices within the community: £1,500 could provide accompanying support for a disabled person to identify and enjoy a hobby like going swimming with friends for one year.Disabled people in developing countries
- Disabled people in developing countries: £1,630 could pay for training for 10 health professionals in spinal injury rehabilitation, helping 190 disabled people in Asia from poor communities each year.
- Specialist further education for young disabled adults: £2,960 could provide an interactive sound light wall unit and fibre optics at Nash College’s new sensory room
- Disabled people into self employment: £10,000 could provide 4 disabled and disadvantaged entrepreneurs with 6 months of Livability Enterprise Agency’s pre-start advice, support and post business start-up mentoring.
- Building therapy facilities for disabled children (Sparkle Appeal): £25,000 could pay for the new sensory equipment that will transform the learning and development programmes for severely disabled children.
- Or you can allow us to use your donation where it is needed the most: For every £1 donated to Livability, 95 pence goes directly towards helping disabled and disadvantaged people, 4 pence is spent on fundraising and the remaining penny is spent on governance.
Whatever your trust or foundation can afford to give, with Livability you can be assured that your support will be put to good use.
