Volunteering

Volunteer for our charity! Whether it’s four hours, a month, or four days a week, volunteering with our charity will help disabled and disadvantaged people have more choice, a better quality of life and new friendships.

Everyone can be great because anyone can serve.
Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.

Giving our time for free for others is one of the most generous things we can do. It is also often a huge amount of fun! Volunteering shows people we care about and believe in them. At the same time volunteering opens our eyes and encourages us that we can be part of making the world a better place.

Volunteering gives you new skills for your CV, helps you belong to something meaningful, find new friends and know you’ve achieved a real benefit for someone else.

Recent research has shown that communities with higher levels of volunteerism are more resilient and happier places even in times of economic challenge (source: http://www.ncoc.net/unemployment-release ). Basically, through volunteering, everyone wins!

Volunteer Research
During Autumn 2011 Kingston University is giving time to help survey all our volunteers. Together we are asking what motivates our volunteers and what kind of experience they have had. We will be using this learning to form a new strategy for volunteering.
We are also asking those staff who recruit or manage volunteers at Livability to complete the survey here.

Are you a Livability volunteer?
Firstly, thank you! We do so appreciate all that you do. Secondly, we would love to have your help with the survey mentioned above. Anyone who is currently volunteering for Livability in any capacity – whether at a unit, for a friends’ group or acting as a trustee – is invited to complete the Kingston University survey here.

Your experience will both help us to better support our volunteers in the future as well as contributing to academic research on what motivates volunteers – hence the survey’s length and complexity! Please be assured that the survey is anonymous and confidential. We will be extremely grateful to all those who take the time to complete this survey.

Volunteer with us
The broad range of Livability’s work means there is a huge array of volunteering opportunities and something that everyone can get involved with. So, whether you would like to be an advocate for disabled people in your church, help us with our campaigning, be a mentor for someone trying to start their own self employment, or drive people from one of our residential settings to social activities, we would absolutely love your help.
