Trusts and Powers of Attorney
If you are the parent or carer of a disabled person, you may need to make special provision to plan for the future welfare of your loved ones. Here is an outline of some of the steps you can take, but do take professional advice on what is right for your circumstances.
Trusts
- Can offer protection for vulnerable people
- Can protect means-tested benefits
- Can help make the most of tax regulations
- Can be made in your lifetime or in your will
Power of Attorney
- Enables you to give authority to someone to act on your behalf should you be unable to do so yourself
- Authorises them to make decisions about finances, health and welfare
- Gives peace of mind that loved ones will be looked after
