Your community
Along with providing choices for disabled people, Livability aims to reduce local poverty.
Our community mission team supports churches and Christian projects in making their communities a better place to live.
The team is passionate
about helping churches in disadvantaged urban areas to make a difference in their local community. Addressing both the ‘why’ and ‘how’, we equip churches to play their part in making the community more ‘livable’ for everyone. We do this by providing inspiration, practical support, training and resources.
Our advisors offer guidance and support on community development and run regular training sessions. They also advise churches and those running community projects on welcoming and integrating disabled people.
What we offer:
- A Church Healthcheck, designed to help churches ensure sustainability and success for both congregation and community work.
- Keeping the faith - a resource produced in conjunction with the Church Urban Fund to help church-related community projects reflect on what being a Christian project means for them – particularly when that distinctiveness comes under pressure.
- The Inside Out course, its predecessor Just People?, or another course or process could help inspire your whole congregation to get involved.
- The Community Mission website, run in partnership with Tearfund is full of inspiration and help. If you’re not sure where to start, start here
- We run regular training courses on a range of issues like a day on how to get the most out of volunteers, and maintaining your Christian distinctiveness
- We produce a Questionnaire pack, which makes it easy to get to know your neighbours and find out what they think about your area.
- Depending on your location, one of our Community Mission advisors could visit you. They can work with your charity, congregation or project to get you inspired, build a local vision and actually start making an impact. If you have been running a project for a while and have lost funding or just feel stuck, we may be able to come and facilitate an evaluation or review.
